SSG Barry P. Burke, U.S. Army SSG Barry P. Burke began his Armor career in 1980 at Fort Knox as a 19E Armor Crewman. Over 13 years of honorable service, he advanced from driver to gunner to Tank Commander, ultimately serving as acting Company Master Gunner during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. His assignments included: • B Co, 2-77 Armor, 9th ID (1980–81): M60A1 driver; excelled during gunnery and inspections. • C Co, 5-68 Armor, 8th ID (1982–84): M60A1 gunner; REFORGER, M60A3 transition. Top tank crew in 8th Infantry Division in 1984 as a gunner on C24 a M60A3 Tank • F Trp, 2-3 ACR (1985–87): Tank Commander; Regimental Colors NCO; F22 Distinguished TTVIII as a Tank Commander; promoted to SSG; M1A1 transition. • G Trp, 2-11 ACR (1988–90): M1/M1A1 G22 TC; East German Border Ops; Distinguished TTVIII. • M Co, 3-3 ACR (1990–93): TC of M-12 Distinguished Tank table VIII; later gunner on CO’s tank during Desert Storm; acted as Company Master Gunner ensuring fire control readiness across the unit. Military Schools: PLDC, BNCOC, ANCOC, M60A1/A3 & M1A1 transitions. Awards: Bronze Star, ARCOM (2nd OLC), AAM (8th OLC), Good Conduct Medal (4), NDSM, SWA Medal (3 stars), Kuwait Liberation Medals (Saudi & Kuwait), OSR (2), NCO Ribbon (3), German Proficiency Badge (Bronze), Order of St. George (Black). Civilian Career: After service, SSG Burke built a distinguished 30-year federal career with the U.S. Postal Service, rising into management overseeing 25–50+ personnel and complex delivery operations. He later became a construction superintendent for multimillion dollar commercial projects and, in 2020, established logistics SOPs for a major automotive repair enterprise. Commitment to USABOT: A member since 2016, he has participated in multiple homecomings and served the organization as National G-3 Operations Officer and Board member. He is committed to preserving Armor lineage, honoring traditions and the fallen, and strengthening communication and organizational professionalism. Statement of Qualifications: His military leadership, federal managerial experience, and proven dedication to USABOT national operations uniquely qualify him for senior leadership roles, As the national commander SSG Burke envisions a strong, modern, technologically advanced USABOT that remains the home for all Armor soldiers. He is committed to innovation, membership growth, and delivering excellence. Goals as National Commander: 1. Uphold USABOT bylaws. 2. Establish comprehensive SOPs. 3. Support Sponsorship Initiative. 4. Build a standalone intranet site. 5. Promote Armor history. 6. Honor the fallen and strengthen the Brotherhood. 7. Execute Board directives and communicate clearly.
